The word "ute" comes frome the spanish word "yuta" which means tribe.
The Utes lived in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and parts of Nevada. Some of these people still live there.
Ute men were hunters and warriors, also they feed and defend their families. Ute women did most of the child care, cooking, and cleaning, and also made most of the clothing.
For hunting, the men would use bows and arrows. In time of war, they would also use shields.
Utes are also famous for their great legend and fairy tale stories. Most of these stories described how the earth was created and why everything is placed the way it is for them.
